Agile Delivery Manager,

Contract Term: 12 Months, Inside IR35    

Contracting Authority: DWP

Location: Hybrid/Leeds

Summary
What’s your favourite agile approach? Scrum, Kanban, Lean or something else? We’re looking for Senior Agile Delivery Managers to manage multi-disciplinary teams who have experience of delivering software in an agile environment, in multiple phases. Our teams and our delivery managers work on products / deliverables that impacts some of the most vulnerable people in society. We’re looking for people who are as motivated by that unique purpose as we are.

Job description
You'll be a true leader who serves, steering from the front. You'll remove blockers and create the right environment for your multidisciplinary teams to succeed, helping them to self-sufficiency and creating a culture of learning and transparency. We’re looking for someone who can do the hands-on delivery of products and end to end services. You will see them through from initiation to live.

You will use your agile expertise to build a culture of continuous improvement with high performing teams.

You will promote user-centred design, applying it to the software development lifecycle. It’s a complex landscape and you’ll need your skills as a persuasive and engaging communicator. You’ll solve cross-cutting problems and use your experience of delivery to get the job done.

Day-to-day you will be working with experts in engineering, business process design, user research, user experience design and policy development.

Responsibilities
Both roles are based in the Working Age team where you will support one of the multi-disciplinary teams. You will be able to make a significant contribution and progress the delivery of the Department’s Transformation of the New Style Jobseekers and Employment Support Allowance benefits service for both our citizens and the DWP Agents delivering the service from our extensive Jobcentre network of offices. The Transformation project is building on Digital Services already in this area and is also looking at how we can more seamlessly deliver this alongside and integrated with Universal Credit. The proposed service has the potential to make a significant difference to the way a citizen is supported as part of their journey receiving financial assistance to return to and progress in work.

Essential criteria
·Experience of delivering software at pace in an agile environment and at multiple phases.
·Promoting a healthy team culture, managing team dynamics and fostering a continuous improvement environment that deals with conflict and helps establish a team culture that allows for constructive criticism.
·An understanding of agile principles and practices and their day to day application within teams.
·Owning and building relationships with technical teams, Product managers and senior business stakeholders, and managing third party sub-contractors and suppliers to ensure the team is aligned to and understands the same delivery objectives.
·Communicating in a straightforward, honest and engaging manner tailoring messages to ensure that it is right for the audience

Knowledge and Experience required.

Agile delivery experience covering at least one topic from Lean, Scrum, Kanban, XP


·Tools and approaches covering Value Stream Mapping, User Story Splitting, User Story Mapping, Leading Indicator Metrics, Team Generated Data Measurement, Multiple Retrospective Techniques,
·Experience of delivering software in more than one GDS delivery phase (Discover, Alpha, BETA or Live), or private sector equivalents;
·Experience of a variety of delivery approaches, including at least two of scrum, Kanban, lean or a scaled agile framework;
·Leading a team which uses modern software engineering methods;
·Leading a team which uses user-centred design;
· Knowledge of live support and service management practices.
