Our client Scottish Power are seeking an Assistant Project Manager for a long-term ongoing contract role based in Glasgow.

Job Purpose Statement

A key role within the Scottish Power Renewables construction team focussing on the delivery of large scale renewables projects.

The Assistant Project Manager’s role is to support the Project Manager in the delivery of renewable projects, take lead responsibility for specific aspects of these projects and to provide technical, general and ad hoc support to the Project Manager as directed by the Project Manager.


Accountability Statements


• Assist the Project Manager in leading/managing multi-disciplinary projects from the consent stage through site investigation, specification production, tender assessment, construction, commissioning and handover to the operations team.
• Deliver (on/off site) technical and project management support of renewables projects as required by the Project Manager.
• Provide input as necessary to the production of design and build specifications, predominantly in civil engineering aspects but also on general project management and multi-disciplinary aspects.
• Providing inputs as appropriate for tender assessments.
• Liaise and coordinate with external suppliers and contractors to ensure delivery specifications are met
• Manage interfaces between the main contractors (typically turbine, infrastructure, electrical equipment suppliers and grid contractors).
• Manage technical advisors/consultants/minor contracts (e.g. site investigation) as appropriate.
• Produce progress reports as directed by the Project Manager.
• Review/monitor contractors’ progress against programme and ensure key project milestones are achieved.
• Resolve a range of on-site/technical/specialist issues on projects.
• Actively identify and manage all critical risks, issues and impacts of the project specifically the adequate application of and adherence to both statutory and corporate health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Ensure all deliverables meet operational requirements.


Dimensions

• The onshore construction team is responsible for the delivery of the onshore Renewables portfolio. The Strategic Plan includes investment of >£1bn.
• The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for supporting the delivery of singular projects within the portfolio with values up to £100m.
• Responsible for all project aspects with consultants/contractors employed on site


Skills,, Knowledge & Experience

• Degree qualification in relevant Engineering discipline (Civil preferred)
• Relevant construction experience
• Experience and understanding of technical due diligence
• Working knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental legislation associated with construction projects.
• Health & Safety management skills – IOSH/NEBOSH qualification preferred
• Tenacity, persistence and determination to succeed
• Excellent interpersonal skills, report writing and presentation skills
• Excellent personal organisation and time management skills
• Experience of writing technical specifications.
• Ability to communicate effectively with SP Renewables management and with contractors
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines


Minimum Criteria

• Degree qualification in relevant Engineering discipline (Civil preferred)
• Relevant construction experience
• IT literate with the ability to operate MS office systems and other IT based project management software
