The Role

As a Head of Supply Chain, you ll have a role that s out of the ordinary. Reporting directly, to the Procurement and Supply Chain Director, you ll be responsible for the identification, initiation and implementation of effective and innovative Procurement and Supply Chain solutions, to meet the needs of key customers.

Day to day, you ll be ensuring value is maximised, risks are identified, mitigated and effective relationships are developed with key suppliers; all the while leading, managing and representing the Procurement and Supply Chain (P&SC) team and the alignment to group requirements:

  • Building strong working relationships with senior stakeholders in the business and professionals from other disciplines within Mission Systems and the wider Group.
  • Driving best practice, strategic sourcing, supplier development and performance
  • monitoring and common sourcing initiatives throughout the P&SC team.
  • Ensuring that the P&SC team is working in a consistent, collaborative and proactive way,
  • across the business to develop supply chain strategies, activities and behaviours that will deliver on-going added value to the business.
  • Management of all commercial and contractual aspects relating to packages of work
  • ensuring compliance with required corporate governance and approvals.


This role is a full-time position that is contracted at thirty + hours a week. The successful candidate can work compliantly from our Bristol, Plymouth or Tewkesbury sites, with hybrid working from home arrangements. There is a requirement however, for face-to-face meetings and / or delivering business across a range of internal and customer sites, especially the sites that are not your primary office.

Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. We are happy to consider flexible, blended working, including part-time, condensed hours, and job sharing. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.

Essential Experience of the Head of Supply Chain:

  • Experience of developing and implementing sound, pragmatic sourcing solutions in a complex, high integrity, project-based industry.
  • A significant track record in working with key internal and external stakeholders, to influence outcomes, identifies and secures opportunities to maximise value and minimise risk.
  • Demonstratable experience of working with sub-contract suppliers, particularly Original Equipment Manufacturers.
  • Experience of leading teams and developing the function.


Qualifications for the Head of Supply Chain:

  • MCIPS, or other equivalent professional qualifications are highly desirable but, not required.


Please note that this position is subject to enhanced national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining SC, NNPPI or Developed Vetting (DV) level of security clearances).
