Senior data scientist - Fully remote

Daily rate: 500 - 600

We are looking for a senior data scientist that has a pragmatic, hands on, and business outcome focussed approach. The right individual will understand that our client is on a journey to move towards data science applications and will take a bottom up, iterative approach towards this vision.

In the early stages they will be expected to work alongside the business and to help users develop and extend existing models written in Jupyter notebooks, which will in turn build the candidate's context and domain knowledge. They will then help the business, at an appropriate stage, move towards the use of more advanced data science techniques to solve concrete problems.

The right candidate will be an experienced advocate for data science, comfortable with working directly with business users and mentoring them, whilst progressing the conversation towards more advanced applications of data science.

Core Skills

Educational background in mathematics, or data science or similar

Python (advanced knowledge)

Knowledge of the leading numerical / statistical libraries

Knowledge of the leading numerical / statistical libraries

Jupyter notebooks

SQL (intermediate knowledge).

Google BigQuery

Industry experience and real life applications of machine learning, deep learning, statistical modelling

Industry experience

10+ years of experience is not essential here. A less experienced individual on a strong growth trajectory will certainly be considered

Any candidate with Actuarial Science experience is at a strong advantage

Any candidate with Insurance and/or Asset Management experience is at a strong advantage

Soft Skills

This is a client facing role. The candidate will be embedded with the client (albeit remotely) and will spend a large proportion of their day working alongside business users

Mentoring, advice, guidance and pair programming with users that are more junior in Python and SQL

A focus more on the practical side than the theoretical side of data science

• Able to explain advanced concepts to non-technical and non-mathematical audiences such as senior stakeholders
