p>The Team
The Submarine Command System (SMCS) system provides situation awareness and Weapons Management capability for all Submarines in the Royal Navy flotilla including the existing Trafalgar, Astute and Vanguard Class of submarines and future platform class Dreadnought. The project portfolio comprises of programmes spanning all stages of the lifecycle from bidding through development, in-service support and disposal. The SMCS projects deliver to a number of customers within Industry and the MoD.


Position Overview
Software engineers required to join the software engineering team working on the Submarine Command Systems (SMCS) project in New Malden.


The Successful Candidate will be involved in the following:
Prototyping and development of new software functionality
Analysing software requirements.
Creating software design and updates to support software implementation.
Creation of software according to relevant coding standards.
Maintenance of existing software
Investigating issues and identifying pragmatic solutions
Investigating defects and supporting defect clearance and the release acceptance process
Writing and running software test schedules to exercise and test system and demonstrate compliance with the requirements.
Documenting appropriate information, so that others can understand the software and the system.
Contributing to process improvement to ensure that the team are as effective and efficient as possible and work to the best of its potential
Liaising with other team and team members obtain key information
Opportunities for interaction with the customer to ensure the system needs and requirements of the operators are met.


Skills and Experience:
Some of the following Key Technical Skills:
Understanding of software-intensive, complex real-time embedded systems
Structured Software Design, using formal methods
Good experience with writing software in some or all of C++, C# or Ada
Experience of software Integration & Testing on representative kit
Coding to required standards
Change Control and Configuration Management
Familiarisation with Windows Operating System (Client & Server) and other COTS technologies.
Desirable - Familiarisation with virtualisation technologies e.g. VMWare
Desirable Experience of a scripting languages such as VB Script or PowerShell
